Bee Diseases Diagnostic Laboratory has been established with the approval of the Ministry on 3.04.1998 in our institute.

Mission Statement:

Bees and larvae from the seven provinces that are in our institute’s area of responsibility are examined by parasitic, bacterial and fungal diagnostic techniques and bee intoxications are also diagnosed.

The foundation combs from producers that are inspected by the Provincial Directorate officials are sampled and screened for the American Foulbrood, European Foulbrood and Chalkbrood diseases

Training seminars and programmes are provided for veterinary practitioners.

The authorties are alerted in case of the diagnosis of a notifiable disease.

Research activities are carried out.

Assays and Tests

Bee Diseases Diagnostic Laboratory is within the Parasitology Department and;

Parasitic Bee Diseases are diagnosed in Parasitology department

Bacterial Bee Diseases are diagnosed in Bacteriology Department

Toxications  are analysed in the Toxicology Department

Staff

The staff of the three departments mentioned above, also are responsible for the diagnosis of bee diseases.

Notes

American Foulbrood is a notifiable disease.

Varroatosis was removed from the list of notifiable diseases in July 2007

In the Aegean region – especially in the Muğle Province- beekeeping is an important economic activity.

The global problem of bee deaths with no obvious reason is a sign of the importance of this diagnostic laboratory and its work which will only be more efficient and varied in the future.
