Bacteriology Department

 

Diagnostic Services: The bacteriology department receives samples for disease diagnosis from 7 provinces which are in our area of responsibility. Also, in case of disease outbreaks, visits are paid to the places affected by the disease and samples are taken for diagnosis and technical information is provided for disease control. The activities of our department is as follows:

 

  1. Bacteriological Diagnostic Activities: The bacteriological and mycological diagnosis and control of infectious diseases of various animal species is carried out by our department. In    addition to the isolation and identification of bacterial disease agents, the farmers are provided with information on disease control and treatment methods with the help of antibiogram testing. Also bacterial pathogens which cause mastitis are isolated, identified and their antibiotic susceptibilities are determined so that  a treatment course can be advised. VITEK 2 (Bio merieux)is an important tool that assists us bacterial identification.

  2. Serologic Tests: Rose Bengal Test, Standard Tube Agglutination Test for Brucellosis suspected blood  samples are carried out, also Milk Ring Test is done from  milk samples.

  3. Rabies Diagnosis: Sellers’ Staining, FAT( Fluorescent Antibody Test) and mice inoculations are applied to diagnose rabies from samples according to WHO and OIE standards.

  4. Training programmes are provided for professionals asigned in the provinces of our area.

  5. Research projects are produced in related subjects and articles, review articles and posters are prepared for publication.
